M Ward played a spectacular acoustic set at Rough Trade last night. Not only did Matt’s Gibson guitar look spectacular, but it sounded it too. The different textures of chord and note that Matt was able to extract from that good looking beastie was incredible! His playing rolls seemlessly rolls folk and blues in to his Americana inspired music and for me the unusual lyrical structure of “Girl from Conejo Valley” from his new album made it my song of the night.
At only 23 minutes (Lampy timed it…) Matt’s set was far too short, a perfect example of time going way too quickly when you’re having fun!
